1. About Deed Poll Direct
Deed Poll Direct provides a private document preparation service for people wishing to change their name by unenrolled Deed Poll.
We are not a government department, court, public authority or part of HM Courts & Tribunals Service.
We do not provide the court enrolment of Deed Polls. Enrolling a Deed Poll is a separate process administered through the courts.
2. Our Service
When you place an order, we use the information supplied in your application to prepare your Deed Poll documentation.
Your Deed Poll must then be correctly signed, dated and witnessed in accordance with the instructions supplied with your documentation.
Our service is the preparation and supply of Deed Poll documentation. We cannot complete, sign or witness the Deed Poll on your behalf.
3. Information You Provide
You are responsible for ensuring that all information provided in your application is complete and accurate.
This includes, where applicable:
- Your current or former name
- Your new name
- Your address
- Your date of birth
- Your contact details
- Any information required for the particular application you are making
Please check spelling, punctuation and all other information carefully before submitting your application.
4. If We Make A Mistake
If your Deed Poll contains a spelling, typographical or other preparation error caused by Deed Poll Direct, please contact us as soon as possible.
Where we are responsible for the error, we will prepare replacement documentation without charging you for the replacement document.
5. If You Provide Incorrect Information
We prepare your documentation using the information submitted with your application.
If your documentation needs to be prepared again because information supplied by you was incorrect, incomplete or misspelled, we may charge a reasonable fee for preparing and delivering replacement documentation.
We will tell you about any additional charge before preparing the replacement.
6. Names We May Refuse
We reserve the right to refuse an application where we reasonably believe that the proposed name is unlawful, fraudulent, deliberately misleading or is intended to deceive another person or organisation.
We may also refuse applications involving names or titles that could improperly suggest that a person holds an honour, professional status, military rank or other title to which they are not entitled.
Where we refuse an application before preparing the documentation, any payment made for the document preparation service will be refunded.
7. Using Your Deed Poll
Once your Deed Poll has been correctly signed and witnessed, it can be used as documentary evidence of your change of name.
You may use it when asking organisations to update records held in your former name. This may include organisations such as HM Passport Office, DVLA, banks, employers, pension providers, utility companies and medical organisations.
Individual organisations may have their own policies, procedures and evidence requirements. Deed Poll Direct does not control those requirements.
We therefore cannot guarantee that a particular organisation will update its records solely on presentation of your Deed Poll.
8. Documents That Are Not Normally Changed
Changing your name by Deed Poll does not automatically alter historical documents that correctly recorded your name when they were originally issued.
Examples may include:
- Birth certificates
- Marriage certificates
- Adoption certificates
- Civil partnership certificates
- Divorce documentation
- Previous educational certificates
9. Prices & Payment
The price payable for your order will be shown before you complete your purchase.
Any optional services or additional items will be clearly shown before payment where applicable.
Payment must be received before we prepare and supply your Deed Poll documentation.
10. Your Right To Cancel
Consumers purchasing services online will normally have cancellation rights under UK consumer law.
Our service involves preparing personalised Deed Poll documentation using the information supplied in your application.
If you ask us to begin providing our service during the statutory cancellation period, we may begin preparing your documentation before that period has expired.
Where required by law, we will obtain your express request or consent before beginning the service during the cancellation period.
Your cancellation rights may be affected once the service has begun and may be lost once the service has been fully performed, where the requirements of applicable consumer law have been satisfied.

11. Delivery
Where your order includes physical documentation, it will be sent to the delivery address provided with your application.
You are responsible for ensuring that your delivery address is complete and correct.
Any estimated preparation or delivery times shown on our website are estimates unless we expressly state otherwise.
Postal delivery times can be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control.
12. Lost Or Delayed Post
If you believe that your documentation has been lost or significantly delayed in the post, please contact us so that we can investigate.
We may ask you to allow the postal provider's normal delivery period to pass before replacement documentation is issued.
13. Your Responsibility After Receiving Your Deed Poll
You are responsible for following the instructions supplied with your documentation and for ensuring that your Deed Poll is correctly signed and witnessed.
Deed Poll Direct cannot accept responsibility for problems caused by a document being incorrectly signed, witnessed, altered or completed after it has been supplied to you.
14. Legal Advice
Information provided on the Deed Poll Direct website is intended to provide general information about changing a name and using a Deed Poll.
Our document preparation service is not a substitute for individual legal advice.
If your circumstances involve a legal dispute, uncertainty concerning parental responsibility, immigration or nationality issues, a court order, or another complex legal matter, you should consider obtaining independent legal advice.
15. Our Website
We take reasonable care to ensure that information published on this website is accurate and up to date.
Laws, government procedures and the policies of organisations can change. We therefore cannot guarantee that every third-party procedure referred to on the website will remain unchanged.
16. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability where it would be unlawful for us to do so, and nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
Subject to those rights, Deed Poll Direct is not responsible for losses caused by inaccurate information supplied by the customer, incorrect execution of the Deed Poll, or the independent policies and requirements of third-party organisations.
We are also not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
